Cheltenham Festival bet calculator
The Cheltenham Festival runs for four days in March, with a big race every day, so many people place a mix of singles and multiple bets. Here is how to work out what they pay.
Bets people often use
- Singles and each-way singles on one horse in one race.
- Doubles, trebles and accumulators across several races.
- Trixie, Yankee and Lucky 15, which cover several combinations so one or two winners can still pay.
The bet types guide shows how many bets each one makes and what it costs. Large-field handicaps often come with extra places, so check the terms on your slip and set them in the calculator. The each-way terms finder shows the standard ones.
A worked example
A £1 Lucky 15 on four horses, each at 5/1, with all four winning, returns £2,400.00 for a total stake of £15.00. If only one of them wins, it returns £6.00, a loss of £9.00.
Rule 4 and non-runners
Bets placed on the day are affected by Rule 4: if a horse is withdrawn after you bet, pence are taken off every £1 of your winnings, depending on the withdrawn horse's price. Ante-post bets, placed well before the race, are not affected in the same way. Put the Rule 4 price or the pence figure in the calculator and it works out the difference. Examples use made-up odds and are not tips. Your bookmaker's own terms decide what you are paid.
