Royal Ascot bet calculator
Royal Ascot runs for five days in June, with several large-field handicaps such as the Royal Hunt Cup and the Wokingham, so each-way bets are especially popular.
Big handicaps and close finishes
Large fields usually mean more places and longer odds. Close finishes can also bring a dead heat, where two horses share a position and the stake is halved at the full odds. The calculator handles both, and the each-way terms finder shows the standard place terms by number of runners. Many bookmakers pay extra places, so use the terms on your slip.
A worked example
A £5 each-way bet at 14/1 costs £10. If the horse is placed but does not win, on 1/4 terms the place bet returns £22.50, a profit of £12.50. If two horses dead-heat for a place, the place stake is shared, and the calculator has a Dead heat button for that.
Rule 4 and non-runners
Bets placed on the day are affected by Rule 4: if a horse is withdrawn after you bet, pence are taken off every £1 of your winnings, depending on the withdrawn horse's price. Ante-post bets, placed well before the race, are not affected in the same way. Put the Rule 4 price or the pence figure in the calculator and it works out the difference. Examples use made-up odds and are not tips. Your bookmaker's own terms decide what you are paid.
